Paal Flaata is a Norwegian singer who was the front man for the band Midnight Choir for ten years. The band released five studio albums, and the “masterpiece” “Amsterdam Stranded” (1998) secured them a Norwegian Grammy (Spellemannpris).
A few years ago, Midnight Choir made a comeback, but Flaata has been recording albums and touring as a solo artist for 20 years – always together with producer and pianist Gøran Grini. There have been eight solo albums since 2002
Flaata has one of the most beautiful voices in this country, and he is a fabulous interpreter of other people’s – often sad – songs. His latest album, “New Green Grass Will Grow” (2022) consists of cover songs by, among others, Randy Newman, Jacques Brel and Daniel Norgren. – It sounds more European, in contrast to the Americana sound I’ve had in the past. The album depicts the intuitive communication we have together as musicians, after being together on the road for a number of years, Paal says about the album. At Dark Season Blues he brings Glenn Vidar Solheim (drums) and Jørn Raknes (guitar) as well as Gøran Grini (keys).
