Nikki Hill is described as “sensitive and tough, flamboyant, witty and dangerous”. With her soulful and sensual voice and the powerful guitar riffs of Laura Chavez, she creates an effective platform for her mix of soul, rock and roots.
She was born in Durham, North Carolina, and listened to R&B, soul, pop and hip hop at home. In addition, she sang gospel in the church choir as early as a little girl. While living along the Mississippi River, In New Orleans and now Memphis she gradually discovered garage rock, rock’n’roll, blues and roots.Through this mix, she found her own distinct voice, and anyone who has seen Nikki and Laura live, knows that they have something very special in store.
After the debut “Here’s Nikki Hill” (2013) and the follow-up “Heavy Hearts Hard Fists” (2015), tours followed in the US, Europe, Australia, India and Morocco with over 30 festival gigs. Her latest album to date is “Feline Roots” from 2018. “Imagine a meeting between Tina Turner and AC/DC, and you’d have half the picture. She’s a machine,” says Rolling Stone Magazine of Nikki Hill and her band, which consists of Matt Hill (guitar), Nick Gaitan (bass) and Marty Dodson (drums) in addition to Chavez.
