Get ready for «bluegrass with latitude»! Since their start in 2005, Blåmyra (named after Longyearbyen’s answer to the Wild West – the miners’ dorms), has developed to be Svalbard’s very best blue grass band.
After a heavy tour visiting the Russians in Barentsburg and scientists in Ny-Ålesund, the band has taken their firsts steps onto the promised (main)land, and played several times at the bluegrass festival in Risør and its successor, «Strenger i gress» in Vikersund.
Blåmyra plays bluegrass hits with their own, Norwegian lyrics, reflecting the hard life in the coal mines and the life of the hunters in Svalbard’s wilderness. The musicians performing at Dark Season Blues are Sveinung Lystrup Thesen (banjo/guitar/vocala), Hans Olav Stegarud (guitar/vocals), Elise Strømseng (fiddle), Thomas Nilsen (bass) and Øystein Fosshagen (fiddle/mandolin).
It is seven years since they last played the festival, so it is about time that they took the trip from Blåmyra to downtown Longyearbyen.
